Sometimes it is interesting to compare popular opinion with what the prophets tell us. Here is some food for thought in the wake of the recent decision made by a federal court that California's Prop 8 is unconstitutional:

Here is what the judge who made the decision had to say in part of his statement:

"The time has passed... when the genders were seen as having a distinct role in society and in marriage."

Governer Schwarzenegger said that the decision was an important part of the process in "leading the way to the future."

Now, compare that to what the prophets have said:

“Gender is an essential characteristic of individual pre-mortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose….

By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families. Mothers are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children…
